Software updates are a big topic of discussion in Android phones. In fact, phones are not constantly updated to the latest version of Android phones. This is important in deciding which phone to buy. Samsung phones usually get great updates, even if it takes a long time for updates to be released. However, you can update the firmware yourself with a nifty tool. We are going to show you how to use “Odin” with your Samsung Galaxy J1.

Check your phone

Before we start with the samsung galaxy j1 you should check to see if the update has already been rolled out to your device over the air. OTA update is easy without risk and installation. You will usually receive an alert when an update is available over the air. If not, then here's how to check for update on your samsung galaxy j1.

  1. Go to settings
  2. Scroll down and click Software Update
  3. Click Check for updates
  4. Click OK
  5. Follow the steps to install the update, if available from the company. If not, a message appears that your phone is up to date.

Install the firmware yourself

If a phone says it's "up to date" but you know that an update is available for your phone, we can take advantage of Samsung's "Odin" tool. Odin for Windows. makes it easy to install firmware on Samsung phones. Odin isn't actually intended for regular clients, but it's easy to handle and download.

Since Odin is an official tool from Samsung, it allows your phone to download the necessary files for flashing the firmware. Keep in mind that your phone may be exposed to a bricks of your phone using Odin. This may be an official tool, but using it improperly can damage your phone. Progress with caution.

Find Odin for your Samsung device and the Odin program will be available for download. The latest version isn't always the version that you should use. Find your device update and use this version.

OdinDownload.com is a site where you can download Odin. Again, check your device's website for information on which version of Odin to use.

  1. Download the installer software to a Windows desktop and laptop computer
  2. Unzip the file to a location that you can return to
  3. This is

2. Download the firmware files

Now that you have Odin, we need some firmware to use it. This is another time. This is the first place you should look when rolling out a new update. Usually the firmware is compressed into a ZIP file. It is very important that you obtain the correct firmware for your device. Using the wrong firmware can completely disable your device. Don't do this step easily.
  • Check device compatibility (is it for samsung galaxy j1?)
  • Check carrier compatibility (does it fit AT&T, Verizon, or ....?)
  • This is also the time when you should check for the correct version of Odin to use it.

3. The main event

Samsung Download Mode

Now the program is available for your computer and the necessary files. Now is the time for the main release event: flashing the firmware. This blinking process takes some time but is not difficult. Make sure to double-check everything before starting the process.
  1. Turn off your phone
  2. Boot into download mode
  • Samsung phones old versions: Press Power + Home + Volume Down for about 6 seconds.
  • New Samsung Phones: Press Power + Bixby + Volume Down for about 6 seconds. A blue screen should pop up with a large download icon in the middle

Now to run Odin. Open Odin on your desktop computer and laptop. In the "ID: COM" section, you should see a greenish-blue box that says "Added!" This is your device. The main section of Odin contains BL, AP, CP, and CSC buttons. These refer to the corresponding firmware files:

  • BL: Bootloader
  • AP: Android section
  • CP: Modern firmware

The process might take a while and the phone might restart multiple times. Do not panic and unplug it before the process is complete. be patient. A progress bar will be displayed in Odin. When the process is complete, you will see a "Reset" button at the top of the ID: COM section. Click it to restart the phone. This is!
